You’ll Be on Cloud Nine With Starbucks’s New Dreamy, Foamy Drinks

Before you subject your tastebuds to the weird and wonderful new foods and drinks going viral on Instagram, check out Brit + Co’s reviews on First Bite, our series where we tell you if they are truly snack-tastic or totally terrible.

The newest drinks Starbucks has on offer for spring are like nothing we’ve ever ever seen before. The Caramel Cloud Macchiato ($5-$6) and the Cinnamon Cloud Macchiato ($5-$6) will be available in stores starting today and will become permanent additions to the menu. We were able to attend a sneak preview to try them and tell you if they’re really worth ordering.

Caramel Cloud Macchiato

The iced version of this drink starts with an espresso base poured over ice. It’s then topped with a cloudy layer of cold foam created by whipping a powdered egg white substance into the milk to create a cross between a divinity marshmallow frosting and whipped cream. The texture is ultra creamy and absolutely melts in your mouth. The cloud foam is lightly flavored with vanilla, which blends well with the espresso. The whole drink is topped with the signature caramel crosshatch to complete the fun. You can also get the drink in a hot version, but the iced is where it’s at. This drink blew away our tastebuds.

Cinnamon Cloud Macchiato

The second drink is a cinnamon twist on the first. The Cinnamon Cloud Macchiato starts with the same espresso base topped with cloud foam, but this cloud has a hint of lemon and cinnamon. And before you scoff at lemon with your coffee, just give it a chance. The lemon flavor is extremely subtle but brings out some of the deeper notes in the espresso beans. It also leaves you with a pleasant taste in your mouth. This drink is also topped with the signature caramel crosshatch but with a sprinkling of cinnamon.

We simply cannot get enough of these new drinks from Starbucks and might just rank them at the top of our list of go-tos at the coffeehouse. Those are big words, but seriously, these drinks are amazing and are a must-try asap.
