You’ll be able to watch Taylor Swift’s new Netflix documentary much sooner than you think

Good news, Lovers. Taylor Swift‘s new Netflix documentary, Miss Americana, is coming out later this month. Netflix has announced that the documentary will be available on the streaming service on January 31st, so soon after the film officially debuts at the Sundance Film Festival on January 23rd. We. Are. Ready.

This isn’t Swift’s first Netflix film. She released her concert film, Reputation Stadium Tour, in 2018 to rave reviews.

But Miss Americana will focus on her latest smash hit body of work, Lover, and it will give a much more intimate look at the singer’s life.

Director Lana Wilson previously described the documentary as “a raw and emotionally revealing look at one of the most iconic artists of our time during a transformational period in her life as she learns to embrace her role not only as a songwriter and performer, but as a woman harnessing the full power of her voice.”

We also have our fingers crossed that Miss Americana will give us an inside look at Swift’s relationship with “London Boy” Joe Alwyn, the inspiration for Lover’s greatest hits.

Though the new documentary promises to offer fans unparalleled access to Swift’s songwriting process and personal life, the announcement of the film was caught up in Taylor’s ongoing legal disputes with music managers Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta.

In November Swift shared the news about her documentary in a long message about the situation with Scott and Scooter on social media with the caption, “Don’t know what else to do.

The message also claimed that the music managers were stopping Swift from performing her past music while being honored at the American Music Awards as Artist of the Decade.

After an outcry from social media, and support from many peers in the music industry, Taylor was able to play an energetic medley of previous songs at the AMAs. And last month it was confirmed that Swift’s previous music was cleared for the documentary.

Though the battle with Braun for control of her music won’t be included in the documentary, it’s another powerful example of Swift “harnessing the full power of her voice,” that Miss Americana will showcase.
