Lizzo Said She's Taking a Break From Makeup While Social Distancing

Each one of us is handling social distancing differently, and for Lizzo, this time of isolation is the perfect excuse to say goodbye to constant glam sessions and hello to the natural look.

In an interview with People, Lizzo opened up about how she's been doing during these challenging times. Explaining that she's been fortunate to be well, she added that she is always thinking of those who have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. "There’s a lot of people right now who are going through it and my little problems ain’t nothing compared to theirs," she said.

The "Truth Hurts" singer went on to explain that while social distancing, she's been taking the time to go fully makeup-free.

"I think it’s cool that we get the opportunity to turn off,” she said. “My dream is to just take off my nails, not wear makeup and just grow my ‘fro out and walk around naked in my own garden.”

Lizzo went on to explain, however, that this sans-makeup mantra is about more than just feeling relaxed. In fact, it's a way to detox after wearing full beauty looks for months on end, which heavily influenced how she views herself on a daily basis.

"I think I’ve been in makeup every single day of my life for the last six months. We get addicted to seeing ourselves really dolled up. I had a few days off in Brazil back in February where I wasn’t in makeup and I remember being like, ‘Yo why am I so ugly to myself right now?'" The singer-songwriter concluded that she had become "addicted" to makeup. "[I got] used to to seeing my face with contour," she said. "I never thought that would happen because I’m such an earthy b*tch, I can go days without makeup!'"

Of course, there's absolutely nothing wrong with wearing makeup — and many have taken this time in social isolation to experiment with wild beauty looks. But Lizzo also proves that it can be just as empowering to step back and wipe off that foundation. Either way, we're all beautiful — with highlighter, or without.
