While many people use social media to show off the highlights of their life, Lizzo often uses her TikTok account as a space to be vulnerable and source help from fans and followers. Case in point, the singer recently posted a video on the platform asking the internet how to apply aloe vera on her face to help soothe her sunburn. "Not the aloeussy," she wrote in the caption, nodding to a line from her viral song "About Damn Time." (Related: Jenna Dewan Doing TikTok's 'About Damn Time' Dance Challenge Is a Major Mood)

In the video, Lizzo is in front of the camera with a bare face and her hair tied back. She mentions that she got "a little bit of a burn" on her face and proceeds to apply a small glob of aloe vera across her face. "How do I turn this into something I put on my face?" she asks viewers while slathering the little bit of gel she has across her nose and cheeks.

As she struggles to rub it into her skin, Lizzo begins to blow aloe vera bubbles through her nose and laughs, asking, "Is this is how you do it?" By the end of the video, the 34-year-old singer gives up applying the gel to her skin altogether and records herself blowing a massive bubble out through her nose instead, because of course she did. Despite Lizzo's struggle-filled, albeit hilarious, attempts to apply aloe vera to her sunburn, she was on the right track. Aloe vera can be very helpful for sunburns, because it helps soothe inflammation and calms the skin. "Aloe is wonderful for inflammation, such as sunburns, contact dermatitis, or other inflammatory conditions, as it has natural anti-inflammatory and calming properties," Ted Lain, M.D., board-certified dermatologist and the Chief Medical Officer of Sanova Dermatology previously told Shape. The anti-inflammatory ingredient in aloe vera called aloin helps heal sunburnt skin, Melanie Palm, M.D., a board-certified dermatologist and the founder of Art of Skin MD also previously told Shape. Additional skin-care benefits of aloe vera include increased hydration because of its high water content; reduced acne thanks to its antiseptic agents; and healthy skin due to the vitamins and antioxidants naturally found within the plant.

As far as how to apply aloe vera, you can opt for skin-care products formulated with the ingredient, or take a page from Lizzo's book, and apply gel straight from a live plant. BTW, Lizzo actually was applying aloe vera gel correctly, minus, well, the nose bubbles. If you choose to use the live plant, break off a piece and rub the gooey gel directly onto clean skin, according to Dr. Palm. You can leave it on your face for a few minutes before rinsing it off and following up with a soothing moisturizer.

Hopefully, Lizzo realized that she was pretty spot on in her sunburn treatment and her face heals quickly. Consider this your friendly reminder to always apply (and reapply!) sunscreen, whether you're planning a long day out in the sun or going about your daily routine.
