Singer Lizzo, whose birthday is April 27, is celebrating the start of Taurus Season by showing off her birthday suit, unedited, unfiltered, au natural. The always body-positive icon posted a picture of herself to Instagram in which she is reclining, completely naked, and enjoying a beverage.

“♉️WELCOME TO TAURUS SEASON♉️ To celebrate I wanna give y’all this unedited selfie.. now normally I would fix my belly and smooth my skin but baby I wanted show u how I do it au natural,” she wrote in the caption.

She explained that the decision to forgo all retouching, part of a partnership with Dove called The Selfie Talk, is in an effort to “reverse the negative effects of social media,” which has only intensified our culture’s obsession with beauty perfection. Rather than give in to the temptation to “fix” a photo, Lizzo would rather be “changing the conversation about beauty standards.”

According to a study from Dove, young girls who spend time altering their photos also report higher instances of low body self-esteem.

“I love how this generation is so creative in the ways in which they express themselves,” Lizzo said in a statement provided by Dove. “It’s really inspiring to see how people are taking their identity and their beauty into their own hands. However, people are struggling with their self-image and self-confidence more than ever. This is amplified by the increasing pressure to show a digitally distorted version of ourselves, reinforcing the idea that our beauty in real life is not good enough or worthy of likes.”

Support from Lizzo’s followers and friends came pouring in after she posted her selfie. Singer SZA praised her friend’s skin, commenting, “It’s you having no blemishes at ALL lol .. sigh I jus admire u Fren😢 I wanna drop the FaceTime pics.” Um, please do! Designer Marc Jacobs commented red heart emojis.

Lizzo’s work with Dove will also touch on another topic the brand has been passionately championing for the past two years—the passage of the Crown Act, which would make it illegal for schools and employers to discriminate against someone for wearing their hair natural or in braids, locs, and twists.
