Lizzo Brought Candy Cane Stripper Poles to SNL

In a year of turmoil and bad news, the ascendancy of Lizzo might be one of the few bright spots. Her career took off like never before in 2019, with the release of her latest album, Cuz I Love You, a slew of Grammy nominations, and covers on TIME and Vogue. And she capped all of that off this weekend with her debut as a musical guest on SNL.

She came out first with "Truth Hurts,", one of her biggest hits. But she did more of a throwback for her second number: "Good As Hell," her 2016 single that just got a brand new music video earlier this month. "Good As Hell" was one of Lizzo's first feel good anthems, an early indication of her role as the queen of confidence both for herself and everyone around her.

For the SNL performance, she brought Hustlers at the holidays vibes, with gift wrapped back-up dancers and candy cane stripper poles. Lizzo herself was dressed in a tux-esque emcee outfit, but during a break in the song, when a Big Freedia sample started playing, Lizzo whirled around to reveal a sparky, maybe-see-through back side. There's no better way for SNL or any of us to close out the decade.
