"Lizzie McGuire" Reboot Writers Recently Brainstormed Over Zoom Video Chat
The return of Lizzie McGuire might still be a possibility. Although the show's planned Disney+ reboot has been put on pause, some of the show's crew had a recent virtual reunion, signaling that perhaps the series does have a future.
News of the online reunion comes after Hilary Duff had alluded to the fact that the Lizzie reboot featured themes that Disney+ was reportedly not comfortable with airing. Her comments, which were shared on Instagram, came shortly after the show's creator, Terri Minsky, left the production. In a statement made at the time, Disney confirmed production was put on hold.
Since then, it was revealed that the reboot contained an episode that referenced sex and cheating, and it was speculated that Disney+ might have been uncomfortable with the show's inclusion of such topics. However, as Hilary pointed out on Instagram, a similar incident occurred with Disney+ plans for a Love, Simon television series, and the show has since been moved to Hulu. Hilary had shared her hopes that perhaps Hulu would also pick up Lizzie, but as of yet, there's been nothing confirmed.
In an April 6 interview with People, Hilary touched on her continued hopes for the series to return, saying, "There’s still conversations going on in hopes that we can find a way to meet in the middle and both bend a little bit. I understand that they have to protect their brand and there’s pretty strict guidelines on what that looks like.” She continued, noting, "I just have to make sure it’s the right move for me and that I feel like I’m honoring her and the character, and that it will be relatable to the people who grew up with her because those are the people I really want to speak to.”
With all of that in the rearview mirror, JustJaredJr. reported that the writing crew involved with the reboot shared Instagram images of a recent Zoom meeting. The meeting is particularly noteworthy, since Terri Minsky was involved. Additionally, some members of the call shared images on their Instagram Stories, captioning the images with “Still figuring it out on the way" and "Lizzie McGuire reboot brunch."
Of course, there's no way of knowing whether the brunch was to discuss the business of the show's possible return, but in these uncertain times, the return of Lizzie and her fashionable wardrobe is something worth hoping for.
