‘Lizzie McGuire’ to head to New York in new Disney+ reboot with Hilary Duff

Now that’s what we call a picture-perfect plan.

Hilary Duff will reprise the role that took her to teen superstardom in a reboot of “Lizzie McGuire” on Disney’s forthcoming new streaming service, Disney+. The series will follow a now 30-year-old Lizzie who lives and works in New York City as an apprentice to an interior decorator.

Duff herself was on-hand to deliver the exciting news in Anaheim, where she was greeted by a massive crowd reaction: “The crowd is now deaf from the screaming,” tweeted D23 attendee Jeremy Conrad.

The original series ran from 2001 to 2004 and spawned a still-beloved 2003 feature film, "The Lizzie McGuire Movie," which took Lizzie on an eighth grade class trip to Italy.

Terri Minsky, who created the original “Lizzie McGuire,” will serve as showrunner for the reboot. Duff told People she's been working closely with Minsky to figure out what a late-20s version of Lizzie looks like in 2019.

"She hasn’t totally found her way and I think that’s part of her journey," Duff said of Lizzie's young adult life.

The series has not yet started filming, she said. “I can’t wait for [Lizzie's] adventures, for her heartbreak, to see her goals and what she’s done."

Minsky was also the creator and showrunner of Disney Channel’s groundbreaking “Andi Mack,” which featured the network’s first openly gay character. Its series finale aired earlier this summer.
