I Lived Out My Coastal Grandma Dreams in a Bungalow Designed By Todd Snyder
Calling all design lovers: If you're looking for a bliss-filled getaway for the summer, consider the 20 bungalows that menswear designer Todd Snyder recently redesigned for Hidden Pond, a beloved retreat in Kennebunkport, Maine. This is not the first time the designer has collaborated with Hidden Pond on some design-forward rooms: The Countryside suite, inspired by Snyder's 2020 'From Away' collection, features a vibrant orange door, L.L. Bean plaid upholstered chairs, and camouflage wallpaper fora cozy, rustic feel. But these new rooms are all about a renewed perspective of Maine's mountainside and coastal life.
“Following the success of partnering with Todd Snyder to debut his first hotel collaboration in fall 2020, we are eager to tell more of our shared vision and love of Maine, combining fashion, travel, and nature, to offer our guests an exclusive stylish lodging experience at Hidden Pond,” says Justin Grimes, Managing Director of Kennebunkport Resort Collection.
The Seaside bungalow, part of the new collaboration, is basically a scene out of a Nancy Meyer's movie. Bright and airy, the bungalow's porch greets guests with sisal rugs, woven baskets, a wicker chaise, and calming sage green walls. The suite opens up to inviting white walls and high ceilings, an off-white linen couch, and pops of sea foam blue and green decor. The showstopper is a mesmerizing John Derian oyster shell wallpaper complemented with a seashell mirror on either side of the king-sized canopy bed. It follows the key elements of coastal grandmother design: modern farmhouse and minimalist styling, white/off-white interiors, bits of beige and brown, and a few splashes of muted blues and greens.
The dreamy mini beach house is decked out with texture. Layered rugs, fuzzy fur throws, a nailhead-trimmed bench, and a white wood desk perfect for journaling (you're essentially staying in a beautifully designed rom-com) make for a picturesque moment even while you're inside. Synder explains, “What we did with The From Away Lodge is very meaningful to me and represents a specific moment in time where my trips to Maine directly inspired me. I wanted to preserve the existing bungalows’ charm and weave in design elements that translate into each new concept.”
If you're more of a hiking type, Synder also designed the Mountainside bungalows inspired by Mount Katahdin. Think bold blues and sprawling greens that effortlessly bring the outdoors inside. The furniture commands the room, from the carbon black sisal rugs, cherry wood accent chairs covered in leather, and comfortable velvet berry blue couch you'll never want to get up from.
For the three designs, Synder collaborated with Atlantic Holdings' Creative and Art Director Krista Stokes and Kennebunkport Resort Collection’s Creative Director Mark Cotto. Each is an upscale but welcoming accommodation that sets you up for a weekend (or longer!) filled with wonder and adventure. Each concept features similar focal points in varying styles like four-post beds, hardwood floors, classic menswear plaids, and highlights from Synder's ongoing L.L.Bean partnership.
