Here’s How You Can Live Rent-Free in New York City This Summer
If you love exploring big cities but don’t have the budget to live in them, we might have found your dream job: The Alliance for Downtown New York is looking for an “Explorer in Chief” to live rent-free near Wall Street and get paid to share adventures in Lower Manhattan.
So what will set you apart from other applicants? According to the statement from the Alliance for Downtown New York, you should have a “camera-ready personality, a keen eye, [and] a distinctive voice.” Along with being charismatic on camera, you also need to be able to produce entertaining video content. While your personality is important, Lower Manhattan should be the main subject of the content you produce. You don’t need a certain number of followers on Instagram, but you do have to be active on it. And, of course, your account has to be public.
If you’re selected, the Alliance for Downtown New York will cover your round-trip travel expenses as well as your summer rent. If you’re married, you don’t have to move to the city alone—your partner or spouse will get to live with you in your rent-free housing. The job will run from June 1 through August 30. While it’s a dream job, it’s still a job, so you’ll be expected to work full-time to complete an agreed-upon number of deliverables. For every two weeks of work you’ll get paid $2,250.
