If the Met Gala had veered into costume territory in recent years, Monday night’s “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” was a return to glamor and chic, proper fashion.

Chanel was obviously dominant, as seen on the likes of cohosts Penélope Cruz and Dua Lipa, as well as Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman, Kristen Stewart, Black Pink’s Jennie and more. And if it wasn’t Chanel, designers from Michael Kors and Thom Browne to Donatella Versace and Pierpaolo Piccioli for Valentino took their inspiration from the iconic designer’s signatures for the French house.

Lipa opted for a vintage Chanel gown paired with a truly spectacular Tiffany necklace: more than 200 carats on the necklace with a center stone more than 100 carats. It was only one piece of bling seen on the red carpet, with other pieces ranging from Cartier (Lily Collins) to Bulgari (Priyanka Chopra).

“I’m not usually speechless but I’m sitting here like ‘wow,’” livestream host La La Anthony told Lipa.

Cruz was the hardest working of the hosts, spending more than 40 minutes on the Met steps working her way through the press crowd. Also in Chanel was Gisele Bündchen, who fluffed the white feathers on her vintage Chanel dress as if she was fluttering her eyelashes.

Billie Eilish paired her Simone Rocha look with a megafake braid. “Feel this s–t!” she said when asked how heavy it was.

Yara Shahidi and Rachel Brosnahan took the carpet as an opportunity to catch up.

“How’s your day been?“ Shahidi asked the “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” actress, who was wearing a sheer dress with strategically placed crystals.

Jared Leto never shies away from a theme, and this time he arrived in a literal catsuit, paying homage to Lagerfeld’s pet cat Choupette. Leto removed the cat head and pumped it in the air, as the crowd cheered him on. Jimmy Fallon came by and kissed the cat head at Leto’s encouraging.

First-time Met-goer Florence Pugh debuted a shaved head at the gala, posing with Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli. “He is fashion!” she said of her date, putting a hand on his chest.

Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz Beckham made friends with Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian, chatting it up before agreeing to be interviewed together.

The Kardashian crew — Kim, Kendall and Kylie — posed together, but Kendall — sans pants — made a beeline for the door inside as her rumored beau, Bad Bunny in Jacquemus, made his way to the top of the steps. Suspicious!

Diddy made his return to designer status, wearing a Sean John heavy cape that kept slipping off his shoulders. “Wardrobe malfunction!” he said. “Sean John is back, baby!”

Jennifer Lopez, in Ralph Lauren, posed for photos near the entrance but instructed the photographer to “shoot up.” She then looked at his camera before giving the OK.

Pedro Pascal was immediately shouted at: “Daddy!” “Blow us a kiss!” He responded to only the second comment, tossing a playful kiss over his shoulder.

Aubrey Plaza stuck her tongue out and, while her date Stella McCartney wasn’t looking (“I’m not doing any telly!” the designer declared) she sneaked off to chat with a pleading video crew.

“Cardi, how does it feel to be the baddest b–ch on the carpet?” someone shouted at Cardi B as she posed solo on the carpet. “Aw…s–t!” the rapper replied.

By 10 p.m., the carpet was quiet, yet everyone remained for one more: Rihanna.
