If you didn't leave the last wedding you attended with a strip of photo booth photos in your purse, did the wedding even happen? If you can imagine, the latest wedding trend is even more retro: live painters.

According to The Knot and Apartment Therapy, hiring an artist to capture your nuptials in real time is one of the biggest emerging wedding trends of 2017 - and we're all about the idea. Don't get us wrong. We love a good photo booth, but the photo strip usually gets tucked away in a book, or worse, lands in a miscellaneous drawer (sorry, newly betrothed). But a real, live piece of art? You'd see it every day and get to relive one of the happiest moments of your life.

Another perk: The entertainment it provides for guests. Imagine your friends and family getting to watch the painting evolve throughout the reception!

Here's how it works: "I like to arrive about four hours early if the venue permits it to paint the background," live painter Katherine Gressel told The Knot. Once the ceremony begins, in goes the bride, groom and wedding guests surrounding them.

This time-lapse video shows the process from start to finish:

The trend is getting so big that you can already shop by style, whether you're looking for something more abstract…

…or something a little more realistic:
