Little Girl Cuts Her Hair in Solidarity With Bullied Sister

A tween girl chopped her hair to support her little sister, who was being bullied for her own short haircut.

Sarah Orrick, an 11-year-old girl in Newcastle, Okla., decided to cut her hair after her little sister Jorgia, 9, came home from school one day feeling upset because the boys in her class were making fun of her for cutting her waist-length hair into a shorter ’do.

“I’ve known the girls’ mother Amy since elementary school, and she called me recently and asked if I would cut Sarah’s long hair,” Noell Shore, 42, a hairstylist at Hue Salon in Norman, Okla., tells Yahoo Beauty.

Once in the stylist’s chair, Sarah had plenty of opinions. “She created the entire look,” says Shore. “She spoke with her hands and said, ‘I want this piece of hair to swirl around the back of my head’ and ‘I want it cut here.’ All I did was carve it.”

The big sister also had zero doubts about her new look. “She said she was ready for a change herself, and she wanted to defend Jorgia from the boys who were mean,” says Shore.

The stylist posted a black-and-white photo and a 360-degree video of the final results to her Instagram page, where commenters are calling the cut “beautiful,” “dope,” and “rad.”

As for Jorgia’s reaction to her big sister’s new haircut? “At first, she was a little upset because she wanted to be the only one with short hair,” the girls’ mother, Amy Orrick, tells Yahoo Beauty. “But now she loves it.”
