The 5 most popular Denver airport destinations

DENVER (KDVR) — Denver International Airport offers flights to hundreds of cities every day, meaning local travelers have a lot of places to choose from when booking air travel.

However, some destinations have proven to be a lot more popular than others.

FOX31 used data from the Bureau of Transportation to see which cities were the most popular for travelers out of Denver’s airport in 2023.

Most popular destinations out of DIA

The data only included cities inside the United States.

Cities in the western half of the United States proved the most popular for Denver travelers, with only one city east of Colorado making it onto the top five list.

The five destinations were also all relatively close to Denver, at least compared to some of the international cities that DIA serves. All of the destinations had an estimated flight time of three hours or less.

5. Denver to Seattle

According to the Bureau of Transportation, approximately 929,000 passengers flew from DIA to the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in 2023.

This was up significantly from 2022, when 799,000 passengers flew to Washington state’s most populous city.

Five carriers — Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Delta Airlines and Frontier Airlines — all offer daily nonstop service to Seattle. The flight lasts around three hours.

4. Denver to Los Angeles

Approximately 966,000 passengers made the journey from Denver to Los Angeles International Airport in 2023.

Frontier, Delta, United, Southwest and American Airlines offer daily nonstop service to LAX. The flight takes around two-and-a-half hours.

3. Denver to Chicago

Chicago was the only city to the east of Denver that made the top five list, and just under 1 million people flew to the Windy City in 2023, according to the data.

Four carriers — Frontier, Southwest, American and United — all offer daily nonstop service to Chicago. The flight takes anywhere from two hours and 15 minutes to two-and-a-half hours to complete.

2. Denver to Phoenix

Phoenix was the only fellow state capital on the top five list. In 2023, 1.19 million people flew from Denver to the Arizona city.

Frontier, Southwest, American and United all have daily nonstop service to Phoenix from Denver. The nonstop flight takes around two hours.

1. Denver to Las Vegas

Las Vegas was the most popular destination out of the Denver airport last year, with 1.2 million passengers flying from the Mile High City to Sin City.

The flight is just over two hours long. Three carriers — Southwest, United and Frontier — have daily nonstop service to Las Vegas — with flights departing from early morning until late evening most days.
