On the 12th of January this year, Lisa Marie Presley - the only daughter of the iconic musician Elvis Presley - was hospitalised in Los Angeles with an apparent cardiac arrest, before sadly passing away just hours later.

It has now been announced that Presley, who was just 54, died from a small bowel obstruction linked to weight loss surgery she underwent years before. According to a report released by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner on Thursday the 13th of July, the musician died from natural causes caused by the bowel obstruction.

As per the Cleveland Clinic, a small bowel obstruction can be caused by numerous factors, including "adhesions, hernia and inflammatory bowel disorders." However, without surgery, it can be fatal.

Further details from the report - as obtained by CNN - also revealed the official opinion of Dr Juan M Carrillo, the deputy medical examiner. He stated that the obstruction was caused by "adhesions that developed after bariatric surgery years ago. This is a known long-term complication of this type of surgery."

"There is no evidence of injury or foul play. The manner of death is deemed natural," he concluded.

The medical examiner's report then outlined that Presley had been complaining of stomach pain on the morning of her death before eventually being rushed to the hospital by paramedics.

It was also reported that "therapeutic" levels of oxycodone were found in Presley's blood - a medication that, according to the NHS is used for "severe" pain. In terms of "therapeutic" levels, in medical terms, this means dosages that can achieve the desired effect (i.e pain relief) without being dangerous, or 'toxic.'

Following Presley's death, her daughter Riley Keough's rep confirmed to PEOPLE that she would be laid to rest at Graceland in the family's plot, where her father Elivis is also buried. "Lisa Marie's final resting place will be at Graceland, next to her beloved son Ben," a statement read.

Our thoughts continue to be with Presley's family and friends, and all those who knew her.
