Makeup Artist Lisa Eldridge Launched Her Own Beauty Line, and It's All Red Lipsticks

Beauty YouTuber Lisa Eldridge has taught her 1.8 million subscribers how to wear countless iterations of the classic red lip. She's helped bring a beauty staple into the age of blogging and made her own ubiquitous red lipstick into a signature look. Now, she's launching her first solo makeup collection — and it's only fitting that her debut product is a range of red lipsticks.

Eldridge is releasing three limited-edition red lipsticks. The line includes Velvet Morning (a bright, coral red), Velvet Jazz (a brick red) and Velvet Ribbon (a blue-tinted classic red.) The range is cruelty-free, and even the packaging aligns with Eldridge's simple, classic aesthetic: Gold bullets with her signature etched on the cap. She told Fashionista that the lipstick has a "vibrant, velvet finish" when applied directly to lips from the bullet, or a "painterly stained look" when applied via fingers or a lip brush. Naturally, we had to get more details.

"I did an editorial story a few years ago where I put velvet on the lips, and I thought, if ‘I could get a real lipstick like that it would be amazing,'" Eldridge explains to Allure.

She worked backward to create a formula that would look like velvet — and it was so tricky that the lipsticks almost didn't happen. After months of working with a cosmetic chemist, she had designed a prototype, but at first, it seemed like it would be too difficult to produce the lipsticks on a mass scale. She dropped the project for a while, but "literally everyone who came to the door would pick up the prototypes and ask, ‘oh my god what’s this?'"

Eldridge decided she had to make it happen and went back to the chemist to create a winning formula. Eventually, she ended up on the production line herself (“with my shower cap on”) to ensure quality control. She decided on three shades all centered around red tones because "for me, the velvet texture means red."

The Velvet Ribbon shade is “pretty universal,” she says. “It’s one of those colors that sits well on everyone.” She also loves it as a rosy stain — just dip your finger and then use it on cheeks or even lips.

Velvet Jazz was inspired by a 1930s lipstick from her own vintage collection. She calls it the “chameleon” of all the colors, as it looks different on all skin tones.

Velvet Morning is Eldridge's favorite to wear as an everyday look, especially as a stain.

Before becoming famed YouTuber Lisa Eldridge, the U.K.-based vlogger spent decades as a makeup artist — including the past three as a global creative director at Lancôme. She's worked with celebrities like Kate Winslet and Cindy Crawford (she also once taught Allure how to drape.) All that experience has been building up to these perfectly simple, elegant red lipsticks — and we have a feeling this is only the beginning of the Lisa Eldridge beauty product empire.

The lipsticks are £26 (or $34 USD) each, or you can buy the trio as a set for £75 ($97 USD). They're available as of November 19 on lisaeldridge.com.
