Idris Elba will be competing in an MMA video game tournament

A new UFC game is launching with a kick-off event that will feature stars from gaming, film and sports.

EA Sports is hosting a pro-am tournament to celebrate the release of UFC 4, the latest game in the EA Sports UFC series. Billed as a virtual fight card, the event will feature entertainers and athletes such as actor Idris Elba, livestreamer Saqib “Lirik” Zahid, heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury and comedian Hannibal Buress.

Lirik in particular has contributed to some of the best UFC gaming moments on Twitch, such as the night when he lost ten matches in a row. The streamer enjoys creating bizarre custom characters in his games, a tradition he continued when he created the deathly pale fighter Po Tato in UFC 3. Po Tato has since become a community favorite and fans have been eagerly anticipating his return for Lirik’s UFC 4 streams.

Lirik floated the possibility that, given the tournament’s format, there’s a chance he could be facing off against Idris Elba.

“Dude, I might be versing Idris Elba.” Lirik, who is a big fan of The Wire, said. “Holy s***.”

Idris Elba is no stranger to gaming, either. He appeared in the NBA 2K20 story mode as Coach Ernie Ames. In 2015, he also narrated the Siege The Day trailer to promote Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege.

The UFC 4 Virtual Fight Card will go live on August 14 at 7:30 p.m. EST. You can watch it on Twitch, YouTube and ESPN.
