Lipslut Launches F*ck Kavanaugh Lipstick to Aid Sexual Assault Survivor Organizations

Lipslut Launches F*ck Kavanaugh Lipstick to Aid Sexual Assault Survivor Organizations

UPDATE (October 1, 2018): Activism-based beauty brand Lipslut is right on time with its latest launch: a new, cool-toned red lipstick aptly named F*ck Kavanaugh. As Refinery29 reports, running from today, October 1, to Sunday, October 7, 100 percent of the liquid lipstick's proceeds will go to anti-sexual assault organizations like RAINN, NO MORE, Alliance to End Sexual Violence, and End the Backlog. After a week, 50 percent will be allotted to the same charities for each purchase that is made.

This comes after a weeklong firestorm in which research psychologist and professor Christine Blasey Ford accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her as a teenager. Since then, another woman has come forward and accused Kavanaugh of the same type of misconduct.

Lipslut founder Kate Sones tells Refinery29 that she imagined the lipstick being a cool-toned maroon. "After seeing Kavanaugh’s hotheadedness at the hearing, we thought a 'calm, cool, and collected' shade would be fitting," she explains, before adding, "While watching the hearing and the events leading up to it, I got so upset seeing women’s voices being ignored, doubted, and flat-out denied."

It's for this reason that Sones decided to take matters into her own hands with Lipslut: "If the highest levels of government won’t listen to us, who will? To me, this entire mess serves as a microcosm for how thousands of women’s experiences and traumas are treated every day — we had to act," she says.

F*ck Kavanaugh marks the fourth politically-charged lipstick Lipslut has released since it was founded in 2017. To support the cause (and score a cool new lipstick), head to Lipslut.com where you can pre-order it for $19.95

UPDATE (July 10, 2018): If you've ever doubted whether or not makeup can make a difference in the world, just look to Lipslut. The zero-bullshit beauty brand birthed the viral “F*ck Trump” lipstick last year, pledging to give 50 percent of the earnings to civil rights organizations affected by the current administration. Lipslut didn't stop there, though. After recently announcing it would up the ante and donate 100 percent of the lipstick's proceeds to groups helping families affected by Trump's “zero tolerance” immigration policy through July 19, it raised a whopping $100,000 dollars. Oh yeah, and it did it in just two weeks.

What's more: The brand told Bustle that its fundraising efforts on behalf of the senseless immigration policy have been so successful that products have been back-ordered all month. If you haven't already, you can go show your support by purchasing a “F*ck Trump” lipstick of your own on lipslut.com (before July 19) to ensure 100 percent of the money goes to help immigrant families in need.

This post originally appeared on June 21, 2018:

In the wake of the news surrounding President Donald Trump’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy — and the separation of migrant children from their parents that it prompted — makeup brand Lipslut is contributing its efforts to helping those affected.

From now through July 19, the company will be donating 100 percent of the proceeds of its “F*ck Trump” lipstick to organizations that are helping families affected by the policy, Bustle reports. These groups include RAICES, KIND, Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center, Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights, and Al Otro Lado. For $19.95, you can contribute your cash to an urgent cause.

The “F*ck Trump” lipstick (which, if you were wondering, is a matte pink liquid) was originally created in the wake of the 2016 election and has already done some serious good in the world. Since 2016, 50 percent of all earnings from the products have been donated to a civil rights charity targeted by the Trump administration. After the massacre in Charlottesville, Virginia, last summer, the company upped the ante, donating 100 percent of its proceeds to charities supporting the victims’ families and raising at least $40,000 in the course of a few weeks.

In addition to its “F*ck Trump” liquid lippie, Lipslut also has a “F*ck Hollywood” matte red shade, which was created after allegations against Harvey Weinstein and others in the industry went public. Fifty percent of the proceeds from those sales go to anti-sexual harassment and anti-sexual assault organizations.

“Lipslut is fashion, subversion, and a middle finger to the current sociopolitical landscape,” the brand writes on its website. “By working hard toward solving the issues you care about, Lipslut is ready to help you make a statement.”

Of course, the public's efforts shouldn't stop there: For other ways to help the families and children who are suffering at the border, Teen Vogue has put together a comprehensive list of how to donate your time, money, and voice. And, of course, buying makeup to do something good is something we’d certainly consider a worthy cause.
