As the newly-minted captain of Inter Miami, Lionel Messi was determined to lead his team to a Leagues Cup title, joined by a crew of documentarians along the way. The Argentine star and his ever-evolving career are the focus of a new series from Apple TV+ entitled Messi Meets America.

This past July, Messi shocked soccer fans worldwide over the summer when he announced he would be leaving Paris Saint-Germain to join Inter Miami after playing at the French club for just two seasons. Building on an accomplished career fostered in Barcelona for over two decades, Messi led the team to victory at the Leagues Cup just a month later.

With Messi Meets America, viewers will get a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most important moves in soccer history, from the landmark initial signing to Messi’s last-minute goal at his first game. Footage will include clips of games, scenes of Messi with his teammates and snaps of him adjusting to life in Florida.

The docuseries will span six episodes and is being produced for Apple by SMUGGLER Entertainment in association with Major League Soccer. Free Solo producers Tim Pastore and Matt Renner are working on the show, alongside Scott Boggins, Patrick Milling Smith and Brian Carmody

The first three episodes of Messi Meets America will premiere on Apple TV+ on October 11.

In other sports news, Damian Lillard will be traded to the Milwaukee Bucks.
