Lingering Snow Is Forcing A California Ski Resort To Cancel Mountain Biking This Summer

The age-old skier's question once again raises its ugly head: "Is there such a thing as too much snow?"

To Bear Valley Resort, California, who supplied skiers with plentiful powder turns during a historically deep winter last season, the answer was probably a resounding "No." But now that summer's underway, I imagine they've changed their tact.

The resort just announced the cancellation of summer mountain bike operations, citing a snowpack that's overstayed its welcome.

This is unfortunate but not entirely surprising news. Like many ski areas throughout California, Bear Valley Resort is still buried after a non-stop hammering of snow last winter.

For additional context, here's what Bear Valley's Koala Lift looked like mid-winter.

Shocking, right?

Now, I might upset some bikers with this take, but I'll take a historic winter any year, even if it means that some resorts end up foregoing summer biking ops. This is the equation in my book: powder skiing > mountain biking.

Although, admittedly, I don't bike, so it's not much of a loss for me (for a more bike-friendly perspective, check out what our friends at BIKE Mag are up to).
