Lindsey Vonn Proposes to Fiancé P.K. Subban: “Men Should Get Engagement Rings Too”

For one athletic couple, Christmas this year was certainly merry and bright. On December 25, Lindsey Vonn proposed to P.K. Subban as a Christmas surprise The couple got engaged earlier in August, when Subban asked the skiing champion to marry him. But Vonn wanted to reciprocate the gesture, so she surprised the hockey star and took to Instagram to share her rationale behind the decision.

“Merry Christmas and happy holidays everyone!!,” she wrote. “On our 2 year anniversary I returned the favor and asked PK to marry me… and he said yes ☺️ We talk about equality but actions speak louder than words. Men should get engagement rings too and this is what PK deserves. Can’t wait to marry you babe.”

Vonn shared a close-up photo of the ring on Instagram as well and subsequently took to Twitter to spread the word about her “non traditional” decision. “Women aren’t the only ones who should get engagement rings!,” she tweeted.

According to The Knot 2019 Jewelry & Engagement Study, Vonn’s proposal to P.K Subban is, indeed, non-traditional. In fact, only seven percent of couples reported exchanging two rings while getting engaged.

Vonn’s adamance about equality in her posts shows that these trends might start to shift. As more and more couples continue to buck tradition, we might expect more couples to follow the couple’s lead. Cheers to the happy couple!
