Lindsay Lohan is slated to star in a new Netflix romantic comedy, and it sounds a bit like Freaky Friday meets Just My Luck. The second of her two-picture creative partnership with the streaming platform, Irish Wish is a tale of luck and romance sprinkled with supernatural elements. The Mean Girls star plays mousy book editor Maddie Kelly in the story, which follows our plucky heroine on a journey to find love by learning to advocate for herself first.

“She’s been ghostwriting for the writer she works for and she’s hopelessly in love with him, and she’s expecting him to love her back,” Lohan explained in a press release.

For the new movie, Lohan teamed up with Janeen Damian, the same director she worked with on the set of another Netflix romantic comedy, Falling for Christmas. Intrigued? Here’s everything we know about Irish Wish.

Who’s in the cast?

Actors Ed Speleers (You, Downton Abbey), Alexander Vlahos (Outlander, Sanditon, Versailles), Jane Seymour (The Kominsky Method, Wedding Crashers), Elizabeth Tan (Emily in Paris, The Singapore Grip), and Ayesha Curry (About Last Night, A Black Lady Sketch Show) will star alongside Lohan in the forthcoming flick.

Lohan and Curry, who is married to basketball star Stephen Curry, grew particularly close during filming, often planning dinners, spa days, and movie nights together. “We watched Paranormal Activity,” Lohan added in the release. It was also revealed earlier this week that Ayesha and Steph are godparents to Lohan’s son, Luai, whom the actor shares with her husband, Bader Shammas.

Lohan’s younger brother Dakota also makes a cameo in Irish Wish, which feels especially fitting given the Lohan family’s Irish roots.

What is Irish Wish about?

Set in Ireland and filmed on location in Wicklow, Irish Wish emphasizes self-discovery just as much as romantic partnership. Here’s the full synopsis from Netflix: “When the love of her life gets engaged to her best friend, Maddie puts her feelings aside to be a bridesmaid at their wedding in Ireland. Days before the pair are set to marry, Maddie makes a spontaneous wish for true love, only to wake up as the bride-to-be. With her dream seeming to come true, Maddie soon realizes that her real soulmate is someone else entirely.”

Lohan felt drawn to the project in part because the role deviates from those she’s played in the past.

“Maddie’s [one of the only] characters that I’ve played [who’s] a woman on her own making her way in the world,” Lohan further noted in the press release. “We shaped her in a way that she was a bit more insecure in the beginning, and then she grows throughout the movie, and by the end, she really comes into her own.

“It’s important to put yourself first and know your worth,” she added. “If you know you deserve better, go for it and get it.”
