Lindsay Lohan made the most epic surprise appearance at the Mean Girls musical movie premiere on Jan. 8 and when it comes to our excitement over her presence: the limit does not exist!

The one and only Cady Heron hit the carpet — where she told PEOPLE exclusively that she “hopes” to be a cool mom — in a cutout Alexandre Vauthier gown and with soft, glamorous waves created by Danielle Priano.

Priano says getting the call to collaborate with the 37-year-old star for the event was “an exhilarating moment.”

“I've had the pleasure of working with Lindsay for a few years now [but] being entrusted to craft her look for such a significant event was incredibly thrilling and rewarding,” the hair pro says.

Priano puts her fandom for the OG movie at a 10 out of 10. (“The original Mean Girls is iconic and holds a special place in pop culture,” she gushes.) So it was only fitting that Cady Heron be in the back of Priano’s mind when she created the look.

“The inspiration for her beautifully sculpted soft waves revolved around channeling Hollywood glamour with a softer, sultrier touch, tailored perfectly to complement Lindsay's dress. While there might not be direct nods to her original character, the essence of sophistication and elegance mirrors Lindsay's evolution — in a way, mirroring the character Cady’s personal evolution in the movie,” she shares.

Creating the look took “meticulous” steps, which Priano breaks down here.

First, she detangled Lohan’s damp hair with the Mermade Hair Everyday Brush. Next, she applied SexyHair Big Altitude Mousse from the stars’ roots to mid-lengths to create a foundation for volume and hold, and blow-dried it with the Mermade Hair Blow Dry Brush, “working the roots up to create lift.”

Then Priano sectioned the hair and input the Hidden Crown Seamless Clip-in 20 inch extensions in the shade Light Auburn in the areas where she wanted more volume. She says SexyHair Powder Play provided the perfect amount of “grip and texture” to “give the extensions something to anchor onto.”

In addition to creating uniform waves, the Mermade Hair OG Pro Waver was also “crucial [for] fullness” Priano says. Then she softened them using the blow dry brush.

“The finishing touches with SexyHair Spray and Stay hairspray ensured the style held its shape effortlessly,” the pro explains, adding, “To complete the look,  you can use a small brush to tuck one side behind your ear to elevate the style into a more red carpet feel as we did on Lindsay tonight!”

It took Priano approximately two hours to create the look. She describes the vibe in the room as “light-hearted” and “filled with laughter.”

“It felt like a reunion among old friends — lots of jokes, and shared excitement for Lindsay's red carpet moment. There was an air of anticipation as we prepared for this special night,” Priano says.

When Lohan reemerged in her dress, her squad knew they’d nailed the look.

Says the pro, “We all had an audible reaction!”

The premiere also drew the film's creator Tina Fey and stars of the new version including Christopher Briney, Reneé Rapp and Angourie Rice as well as superfan Megan Thee Stallion (who channeled Regina George in a video she released just a few days prior to the event).
