  • Linda Evangelista, 58, opened up about her experience with Botox.

  • She still gets the injectable after undergoing a botched series of CoolSculpting sessions in 2015 and 2016.

  • The former supermodel said she still loves aging. “I never did mind aging. Aging gets us to where we want to be, and that’s for me a long life,” she said.

At 58, Linda Evangelista opened up about Botox and cosmetic procedures—a touchy subject for the former supermodel, who is reclaiming her space in the public eye after hiding away for five years after a failed CoolSculpting procedure left her “brutally disfigured.”

In 2015, Evangelista happened upon a pamphlet at her dermatologist’s office for CoolSculpting, a non-invasive alternative to liposuction that freezes fat cells, she recently told Vogue. After undergoing seven sessions on her jawline, back, abdomen, and thighs, she experienced paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (PAH), a rare side effect that triggers permanent, hard, fatty bulges of tissues in the affected areas. For fear of exposing the changes made to her body, she stayed inside—until she couldn’t.

“I couldn’t live with it anymore,” she said. “I wanted to go outside.”

Since then, she’s made a return to the runway and is finding her stride again. But she did tell Vogue that her tragic experience hasn’t kept her away from injectables like Botox.

“I don’t mind and I never did mind aging. Aging gets us to where we want to be, and that’s for me a long life,” she explained. “[Makeup artist] Kevyn Aucoin was so afraid of wrinkles and he never got them. I want wrinkles—but I Botox my forehead so I am a hypocrite—but I want to grow old. I want to watch my son grow into a fine young man. I just want to stick around.”

In February 2022, Evangelista teamed up with People to make her public re-entry. “I can’t live like this anymore, in hiding and shame. I just couldn’t live in this pain any longer. I’m willing to finally speak,” she told the outlet.

Before getting her PAH diagnosis, she exhausted herself with dieting and exercise in attempts to make the masses disappear. “I tried to fix it myself, thinking I was doing something wrong,” she said. “I got to where I wasn’t eating at all. I thought I was losing my mind.”

Later that year, she revealed on Instagram that she settled a $50 million lawsuit against CoolSculpting’s parent company, Zeltiq Aesthetics Inc. “I look forward to the next chapter of my life with friends and family, and I am happy to put this matter behind me,” she wrote. “I am truly grateful for the support I have received from those who have reached out.”

Now, she’s making the most out of the present. She’s releasing her first book and helped Fendi honor the baguette bag’s 25th anniversary by participating in its celebratory campaign.

We can’t wait to see what’s next for her renewed lease on life.
