Lin-Manuel Miranda Is Reprising His Role in Hamilton in Puerto Rico

The Broadway and Mary Poppins star will reprise his role as Alexander Hamilton in the smash stage hit to benefit the Flamboyan Arts Fund in Puerto Rico.

Hamilton is coming to Puerto Rico—and two tickets for its opening night are up for grabs. Original Broadway star Lin-Manuel Miranda will reprise his role as Alexander Hamilton for just 24 performances at the University of Puerto Rico, and he has partnered with Prizeo, an online fund-raising platform, to raffle off two opening-night (January 8) tickets for a very good cause.

Beginning on October 1, any $10 donation to the recently formed Flamboyan Arts Fund (which helps preserve and support the arts in Puerto Rico and can be donated to here) will be automatically entered into the draw, which includes two VIP tickets for opening night, a signed and framed photo with Miranda, and tickets to the after-party, where one can mingle with the rest of the cast. Roundtrip airfare and hotel accommodations in San Juan will also be provided. Puerto Rican residents can also enter a separate digital lottery, where 10,000 tickets will be available to win as well.

Miranda, along with his family and Hamilton producer Jeffrey Seller, announced the creation of the Flamboyan Arts Fund back in July. In a short promotional video clip, he spoke of the importance of supporting Puerto Rico’s arts scene, especially following last year’s devastating Hurricane Maria. “Nothing prepares you for seeing Puerto Rico in the aftermath of [Hurricane] Maria,” he said. “It’s important that we continue to support artists on the island who are making life for everyone around them better . . . It’s important to raise money for both the basics and the arts. I believe the arts helps us survive; I believe music helps us on our hardest days. Arts provide release and catharsis and escape.”

Miranda’s return to Hamilton will be the first, and only, time he has reprised his role since leaving the Broadway cast in 2016. (He won two Tony Awards for the show, including Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical.) He will perform from January 8 to January 27, 2019.
