When a recipe calls for cheese, most of the time it calls for a type of cheese such as cheddar, mozzarella, Swiss, or Parmesan, but as far as the cheese brand goes, there's not much instruction. If you're making Cheddar Biscuits, you can use whichever cheddar you prefer. A recipe for Chicken Parmesan usually doesn’t specify the brand of Parmesan or mozzarella needed. The Turkey and Swiss sandwich you take for lunch often includes whichever Swiss cheese was on sale that week at the deli.

But, there’s one brand of cheese that’s often specified in a recipe because its fan-favorite flavor is unlike any other. Boursin cheese is soft and creamy, close to spreadable cream cheese, but not exactly, and it’s imbued with herbs. The original Boursin contains garlic and fine herbs, but now, several variations exist.

The soft, flavorful cheese works so well in recipes that it ends up being an essential part of dishes such as Boursin Mashed Potatoes, Boursin Chicken and Vegetable Soup, Creamy Chicken Orzo Bake, and Puff Pastry Squares with Boursin and Tomatoes. Last year, Boursin reached viral cult status when Boursin Lemon Baked Pasta became the new baked feta pasta.

Many recipes call for the OG Boursin, but home cooks often switch up the varieties to suit their personal tastes. Now, those home cooks have a new variety of Boursin cheese for even more culinary diversity—Rosemary and Black Garlic.

What Is Black Garlic?

Black garlic isn’t a variety of garlic—it’s the result of aging an entire head of garlic or individual cloves of garlic in warm and humic conditions until they turn dark brown or black. The flavors of the garlic mellow and the result is sort of sweet, tangy, and earthy. Black garlic can add savory flavor to recipes such as Bacon and Parmesan Brussels Sprouts with Black Garlic. It can also be dried completely and turned into a powder (and a sprinkle is one of the best ways to instantly upgrade frozen pizza).

How to Use Boursin’s New Rosemary and Black Garlic Flavor

Boursin uses black garlic powder in its new Rosemary and Black Garlic cheese, describing it as a “delectable creamy cheese delights the palate with the rich, earthy flavor of black garlic punctuated perfectly with vibrant, herbal notes of rosemary.” Like other Boursin varieties, it’s tasty on its own as a spread for crackers or can be used as a recipe ingredient.

Personally, we can't wait to try replacing the original Boursin with the new flavor in our Tilapia with Lemon-Boursin Cream Sauce or 3-Ingredient Boursin Cheese Pasta.

Boursin Rosemary and Black Garlic is a limited edition flavor, meaning it won’t be around forever. If you love the flavor of rosemary and black garlic, grab it before it’s gone from store shelves.
