Lily James was a vision in white walking the red carpet at Rome's Cinema Barberini on Monday for the premiere of her new film, Finalmente l’Alba.

The actor’s head-turning gown was pulled straight from Valentino’s Fall/Winter 2023 couture runway, and nodded perfectly to two ongoing fashion trends: coquette and shipwreck-chic.

The white halterneck floor-length dress was made up of gauzy layers and embellished with white feathers. The movement of the semi-sheer piece created a romantic, breezy image as James walked, as if she’d come out of a modern-day Downton Abbey (like her flirty character, Lady Rose)—or a gentle wave had washed her ashore, to be discovered by a handsome prince.

James let the gown take the spotlight, accessorizing only with white diamond stud earrings, minimal, glowy makeup, and a casually wavy hairdo.

James has been on a press run for her film for the past few weeks. Finalmente L'Alba, which translates into Finally Dawn, is a 2023 Italian period drama written and directed by Saverio Costanzo. Other than James, the cast includes Willem Dafoe and Joe Keery. The film follows a young Roman woman during the 1950s, who is on the verge of becoming engaged to a man when “she goes to Cinecittà to do an audition as an extra and is thrust into this almost infinite night during which she discovers herself,” per IMDb.

The film will be available to watch on various streaming services starting on Valentine's Day, February 14.
