Our favorite American transplant, Emily Cooper (Lily Collins), from Netflix's Emily in Paris is under a ton of pressure at the beginning of the third season, which premiered December 21. She faces major life-changing decisions in her work, fashion, and love life, as we saw in the season two finale. Will she stick by her Chicago boss, Madeline, at Savoir or join her aloof Parisian mentor, Sylvie, at her new firm? Should she enter a long-distance relationship with her new British flame Alfie or should she hold out hope for Gabriel? While these decisions appear to be harder to make for Emily, one choice was easy — she needed to cut her hair.

Without giving away any *major* spoilers, in the first episode, we see Em DIY a set of whispy blunt bangs in her bathroom mirror while in an insomnia-addled state, drinking a bottle of rosé by herself. Emily's BFF, Mindy (Ashley Park), proceeds to dub the new fringe "trauma bangs," gently teasing Emily by saying, “Oh, look, that shih tzu has bangs like you."

In a recent interview with The New York Times, the actress proved that she's just like her onscreen character, lamenting the time she picked up some scissors and the major regrets that came along with the DIY 'do. "I had a life change haircut when I was, I think, 26,” Lily said. “I cut all my hair off — it was a pixie haircut — and I went to the Vanity Fair Oscars party and people were like, ‘What happened?’”

The actress regretted this subtle edgy pixie cut she wore with a deep smoky eye and a nude lip — but c'est la vie. As Emily exclaims when asked about the hair change by Gabriel,"They're just bangs! Some people cut bangs when everything's fine!"

Lily's costar Ashley also admitted to having her own hair faux pas in the seventh grade, saying she wanted wavy hair but "got a perm" instead. "It was way too much, so I had to wear my hair in this topknot that I called ‘the pineapple' for a year!” Ashley said.
