Lily Collins Has a Pretty Spooky Ghost Story Involving Her Ted Bundy Film
If there were a contest for who in the world had the best ghost story, Lily Collins would definitely be a contender. In an interview with The Guardian, the actress said that while filming her new movie Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, she was visited by the ghosts of Ted Bundy's victims.
"I would go downstairs and have a cup of tea, trying to figure out why I had woken up again," she said. It got worse: "I started being woken up by flashes of images, like the aftermath of a struggle."
But before you start calling Ghostbusters, you should know that Collins believed these ghosts to be friendly. She said she didn't think they came to deliver a sinister message. They were friendly. “I didn’t feel scared-I felt supported. I felt like people were saying: 'We’re here listening. We’re here to support. Thank you for telling the story.'"
In the movie about real-life serial killer Ted Bundy, Collins plays Bundy's girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer. Zac Efron plays Bundy.
She said that these paranormal visits came at 3:05 a.m. every night. She never knew why she woke up at that exact same time every night, until she learned a little more about the schedule of ghosts. "I discovered that 3 a.m. is the time when the veil between the realms is the thinnest and one can be visited," she said.
Her costar, Efron, told Variety he was initially concerned about playing a serial killer and that the whole gruesome thing had him on edge. But once he read the script, he felt differently about taking on this role.
“This movie was really about a human being, somebody that perhaps I would have been friends with,” he said. “And a love story from a very unique perspective. I’ve never seen that before. It’s intriguing to me. I think it’s more psychological and even more kind of a mindf–k.”
The film premiered on Netflix May 3.
