Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse’s Body Language at Comic-Con Actually Reveals a Lot About Their Breakup
ICYMI, Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart broke up. 😭
According to her body language at last weekend’s Comic-Con, Lili feels pretty anxious about the way things ended.
Hey, Sprousehart shippers. How ya holding up? I know it’s literally been a day—okay, less than 24 hours—since Riverdale costars Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart broke up, but I just wanted to check on you all. Even though Cole and Lili’s long-winded, beautiful romance might have come to an end, there’s still a tiny sliver of hope that they’ll maybe get back together (if we’re lucky)!
According to E!, Cole and Lili have been broken up longer than we all might have thought. In fact, the outlet says they pretty much called it quits at the beginning of the summer. “Lili and Cole broke up earlier this summer,” the source said. “The two are not living together this season.” Depressing, I know. But here’s where the hope comes in: “Right now, it’s unclear where things stand, but it seems [like] they could be heading back in the direction of getting together,” the source added. Sounds like this might be a temporary thing, so let’s see if Lili and Cole change their minds!
In the meantime, let’s take a look at Sprousehart’s most recent outing to glean some info on where they stand after their breakup. At this year’s Comic-Con, Lili, Cole, and the core Riverdale cast members did a season 4 panel. Now, if it looked like things were pretty weird between Lili and Cole, that’s because they kind of were. And according to body-language expert Blanca Cobb, Lili appeared to be sad. Whip out your magnifying glass, because we’re going to take a look at some pics!
First up, we have a pic of Lili looking slightly downward while Cole is talking. Blanca says this means Lili isn’t very present in the moment and looks like she’s getting lost in her thoughts. “In this photo, Lili has a subtle expression of sadness on her face while she’s looking down. The zoned out look of her eyes suggests that her mind is deep in thought with her arms crossed in a self-hug that provides comfort,” Blanca says.
In the next photo below, Blanca believes that Lili is having an issue with giving the crowd a true smile. “As if on auto pilot, she’s giving a polite smile not a genuine one (where the corners of the eyes crinkle and cheek muscles push up showing the top teeth),” Blanca explains. “Lili has her arms pulled tightly by her sides with her fingers interlaced in front of her chin, which is a self-protective gesture. You pull into yourself when you’re anxious or uncomfortable.”
On the other hand, Cole seems to be dealing with the situation juuuust fine. According to Blanca, he seems to be “more relaxed with his arms taking up space on the table and with his hands unclasped and lying palms down on the table” in the same image.
From the outside, Lili looks like she’s fully interested in what Cole is saying, but Blanca says her body language in the last pic below hints at some lingering tension. “Although Lili is looking at Cole while he’s talking, notice that she’s covering her chin and her mouth with her hand. This subconscious gesture is protective as it serves as a physical barrier between herself and Cole,” Blanca explains. “It looks like her shoulder is pushed up a bit, which serves as a shield. Your body language will try to block out the person who you feel uncomfortable around or tension with.”
It sounds like there’s more to the story, but in the meantime, we’ll be rooting for them both to recover well, ’cause breakups suck. Hang in there, Lili!
