Lili Reinhart Calls Out "Cosmo Philippines" For Photoshopping Her Waist

“To see our bodies become so distorted in an editing process is the perfect example of the obstacles we have yet to overcome."

Actress Lili Reinhart took to Instagram stories on Thursday to call out a magazine for photoshopping her waist for their social media images. According to the 11-photo story, Lili did a shoot with Camila Mendes for the February cover of Cosmo US. When the images were reused on the Cosmo Philippines page, both her and Camila's waistlines were noticeably altered to be slimmer.

As the post fell on International Women's Day, Lili made the connection between the unnecessary changes to her body and the movement we're celebrating. She writes, "Over the last year, we've seen an unprecedented movement for women's rights, and one thing is clear: our time is now. We are phenomenal and we will make the world a better place for all women." She continues, "But we still have a long way to go. Our fight is not over."

She then goes on to show a photo of her wearing a pink matching two-piece from the original publication. Then in the next image, a screenshot of how the magazine altered her ribcage and waist to make it smaller. She also showed two images of Cami with the same altering.

After showing the images, she goes on to discuss how she and Camila have worked hard to accept their bodies but incidents like this one make it that much harder. She explains, "It's an everyday battle sometimes. And to see our bodies become so distorted in an editing process is the perfect example of the obstacles we have yet to overcome." In the last year, many brands and retailers have tried to become more transparent about their use of photoshop. CVS even made a pledge to stop using it in their in-store advertising. These distortions are an issue that has wide-reaching effects on both the subject and the consumer. Lili, and other people like her, who make the decision to use their platform to call the issue out is a massive and necessary step forward.

We have reached out to Cosmo for comment and will update if we hear anything.
