This Year, Lil Uzi Vert Redefined the Fashion Instagram Selfie

Lil Uzi Vert might not have invented the Instagram ’fit pic—it’s as old as Instagram time itself—but he proved himself a master of the form this year. If you haven’t been keeping up, Uzi relentlessly (and very carefully) archives each of his looks with a detailed slideshow. It’s rarely a series of mirror selfies—usually someone else is taking the picture—and on average, there are five or so photos showing off every element of his outfit, whether it be stacks of tennis bracelets, a Prada harness bag, or fresh Dior sneakers. Uzi’s outfits are also unusually consistent—he rarely mixes different brands, preferring instead to fully commit, head-to-toe, to his designer of choice for that day, whatever the label.

While it’s hard to choose the best looks that Lil Uzi Vert has given us over this past year, there were some undeniable highlights. He was one of the first to wear Pharrell’s colorful Chanel capsule collection, slipping into color-blocked loafers and an embroidered white T-shirt from the collaboration, and he’s eschewed more utilitarian carry-ons in favor of candy-striped, square Versace purses from the Italian house’s spring 2019 collection. His commitment to his very particular craft is rarely interrupted. Even when he’s at the dentist’s office, he still made sure to capture his outfit (and his stuffed octopus accessory) every step of the way, from the waiting room to the dental chair.
