Lift Line Cheers As Skier Attempts Whistler's 'Air Jordan'

At Whistler, BC, last season, a skier attempted the world-famous feature, "Air Jordan."

With the POV footage posted to YouTube, Joe (self proclaimed as "your average Joe enjoying some skiing and mountain biking across the globe") explains that "Hitting Air Jordan for the first time, felt right to get upside down. You can hear the crowd chanting in the background, what a feeling!"

Exposure is usually the word measuring how precarious or dangerous a line is, in terms of steepness, obstacles, and the amount or danger of the no-fall-zones.

But there's also a different kind of exposure. The visibility exposure, which factors in how many people can see you. A medium-hard line in front of a full, heckling chairlift, is just as nerve-wracking as a really hard line when you're completely alone.

Therefore, this line Joe hits is really hard. Not only are there obstacles, a steep line in front of him, and a mandatory air, there is a crowd watching as he attempts it.

Luckily, even though his landing is a little rough, he appears stoked, letting out a loud "yehehewww!!!" and the crowd explodes.

But things don't always go this well. Rick Meloff posted a compilation of some crashes off Air Jordan at Whistler, also from last season, a couple months before Joe's send, above.

Watch the carnage below. (How's that one guy's tomahawk with his helmet coming off?)

Sadly, this season is not quite as great as last winter, and certain iconic parts of the resort, such as Spankys Ladder, are not open right now.

Their current season total is 504 cm, or 198 inches. Their average is 1,163 centimetres (458 inches) of snow annually.

However, we're pretty confident that there are still other places around the resort to test your guts. Make or crash, we salute anyone who tries this world-famous huck (or really anything involving air at all).

It takes guts to send it. Maybe even more if you crash.
