'My Life with the Walter Boys' Was Filmed In A Pretty Surprising Spot

Already devoured Netflix’s hit coming-of-age romance, My Life with the Walter Boys? No judgment here! It’s hard to resist a story like this one, especially when it has all the binge-worthy elements: a love triangle, a beautiful, smart main character, and endless teen drama.
The show is based on Ali Novak’s novel of the same name, and follows 15-year-old Jackie Howard (Nikki Rodriguez), whose entire life is altered when her family dies in a tragic accident. Jackie gets adopted by her late mother’s best friend, Katherine Walter (Sarah Rafferty), and has to leave behind her glamorous life in Manhattan for a very rural home in Colorado. Oh, and she has to now share a home with ten (!) other kids.
There’s a ton going on in each of the ten episodes (yes, the Walter household is utter chaos), but it’s hard not to ooh and aah the scenic backgrounds that appear throughout the scenes. From shots of the Walter’s beautiful ranch, to Cole's secret watering hole, Colorado really doesn't look so bad. Even the teens' high school is surrounded by vibrant greenery.
However, while My Life with the Walter Boys is set in the fictional town of Silver Falls, Colorado, the episodes were actually filmed in a completely different part of North America. So, here’s everything you need to know about the hit show’s filming locations.
The show was actually filmed in Canada.
Yep! While it’s totally believable that the characters are living in Colorado, the episodes were actually filmed outside the U.S., in southern Alberta, Canada, according to local Canadian news outlet Western Wheel. If you've ever visited or lived in Kananaskis Country, Cochrane, Airdrie, Crossfield, and Bragg Creek may notice a few familiar backdrops throughout each episode.
Western Wheel also explains that a handful of other familiar films and series were shot in Alberta, too. Think: The Last of Us, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, The Revenant, Inception, Interstellar, and Legends of the Fall.
The town of Cochrane helped locate filming locations.
“We’ve worked hard to build relationships with local film scouts," Cochrane’s community event administrator, Natalie Germann, told Western Wheel. “That means we’re available to answer questions about the area, assist them in finding spaces and businesses when needed and just stay in touch with them regularly, even when they’re not filming in town.”
Last April when My Life with the Walter Boys was filming in Cochrane, Germann said she wasn’t not surprised by the industry’s interest in the town. “I don’t think there’s a prettier spot. We’re really lucky to live here - even on a snowy day,” per the Cochrane Eagle.
Director Nimisha Mukerji directed episodes 3 and 4 for My Life with the Walter Boys, and shared a few pics of her time on set to Instagram. The first of the three images show

Noah Lalonde (Cole Walter) told Western Wheel that he liked the peacefulness of Kananaskis Country. Meanwhile, Ashby said he fell in love with the handmade donuts from Alberta. “Shout out to The Donut Man in Crossfield,” Nikki chimed in.

William Camden Park and Glenhill Drive are also filming locations.
The Walter’s house is a real ranch.
Indeed, the gorgeous ranch is a real place! Western Wheel shared that it’s actually called the CL Ranch, and it's located just west of Calgary. Apparently, Nikki Rodriguez liked it so much she said that she wished she could live there!
Western Wheel also said that Ashby fell in love with the horses at the ranch, and praised his horse from the show, Murphy (named Copper in real life), for being so gentle. The actor said that the horse “had a personality bigger than I have on-screen or off, and I’m really grateful to him for keeping me safe and not throwing me off.”
Ashby even took riding lessons from real-life cowboy and wrangler John Scott (who is known for teaching Brad Pitt how to ride), and took him to a real rodeo, “He explained every single event to me,” the up-and-coming star said to Western Wheel.
Filming took place in 2022
Netflix’s My Life with the Walter Boys started filming in March of 2022 in Alberta, Canada. They wrapped just six months later.
