Library Cat Breaks the Number One No-No Rule and Everyone Notices

Normally seeing a cat outside the home is a good thing! Who can resist the joy of seeing a kitty in your local cafe or corner store? But you know where cat's don't belong? The library. Yep cats everywhere have lost that privilege, after one cat online broke the library's number one rule.

We know, we know. It seems like a match made in Heaven. Who doesn't love snuggling up to your cat while reading a good book? But the reality is way different than the dream.

We're sure it was a surprise to Taylor, who was in the library recently when she kept hearing water running from somewhere nearby. Lo and behold she looked over at the refillable water bottle station and noticed there was a cat sitting on the fountain. What in the world? It was just like when your cat pays with the faucet at home.

Obviously she caught the cat red-handed. And people in the comments section couldn't stop cracking jokes. "Leave that man alone he is working," joked one person. "He just saved 75 bottles of water," someone else teased. "Kitty’s face said 'you got something to say?'" a third person kidded. "Like cats don’t have enough ego. Now he thinks he can control the elements," wrote one person.

Cats and Running Water

It's the craziest thing; cats hate water. Totally detest it. But place them near a sink (or water bottle fill station) and they are positively transfixed. It doesn't really make any sense. But despite the fact that it confuses us humans there is a reason why cats can't get enough of the tap.

The truth is that cats love the reflection that the moving water makes and they're intrigued by the sound of running water. That doesn't mean they want a bath mind you. But it does activate their prey drive. There are also other primal reasons why cats like running water and prefer it over still. In their minds, running water is more likely to be fresh and uncontaminated. Just like how water running from a stream would be safer to drink than still water in a pond.

Another big difference between playing with the faucet and bath time is that cats get a little more control. They get to be safely on dry land and interact with the water as much or as little as they please.

It doesn't seem too crazy when you think of it this way. Cats are always going to want to do things their way — even when it comes to water.
