It’s officially fall, and if there’s one thing you can count on enjoying at some point this season—besides chunky sweaters, football, and all things pumpkin spice—it’s a good old-fashioned pumpkin pie.

If you’ve dug into a homemade pumpkin pie during the last 75 years, chances are good it was made using Libby’s canned pumpkin, and with the same famous recipe that’s been on the back of their cans for the better part of a century. It is a classic, after all, and classics don’t change for a reason.

Aside from the addition of condensed milk and the omission of some extra sugar, as well as a slightly shortened bake time, the recipe is pretty much the same.
