Sources close to Miley Cyrus are opening up more to People about why her and Liam Hemsworth's relationship ultimately wasn't going to work out. Apparently, Hemsworth wasn't willing to be with Cyrus without her changing who she was substantially.

A source explained, “She just got to the point where she didn’t want to hold back about who she is. She wants to be true to herself. Being with Liam, this was just not possible. For them to be happy, she had to change as a person too much. She knows not being with Liam will make her happier in the long run.”

In the short run though, Cyrus is not without pain after Hemsworth filed for divorce yesterday. TMZ was told by sources that Cyrus had been fighting as recently as this week for their marriage and wanted them to work on things.

People, meanwhile, was told by a source yesterday that while Cyrus "didn't expect" Hemsworth to file for divorce, she is "still doing well." She was "a bit disappointed" about the move though.

“What she and Liam had for a long time was very special," the source said, referencing their 1o-year on-off romance. "It’s just hard for her to think that she will never have this again with Liam. There are really so many things that she loves about him.”

Entertainment Tonight's source, who spoke about why Hemsworth made the move, echoed Cyrus' side. They were just too different to be longterm compatible.

"Liam's decision to file for divorce is sad, but in the end, it was never going to work," Entertainment Tonight's source said. "They are too different. Liam never wanted to share Miley with anyone. He loves her and he is far too traditional. He finally realized he just wants to start fresh. Liam has come to terms that it was time to move on. Liam's family has been incredibly supportive. They are relieved it's over."
