The nominations for the 81st annual Golden Globe Awards are finally here!

Between movies, TV shows, characters, actors, and musicians, we thankfully have plenty of LGBTQ+ representation among the nominees.

A few queer performances and projects were majorly snubbed at the 2024 Golden Globes. However, we do want to hold space and celebrate the LGBTQ-inclusive content that did land a nomination. So, without further ado, let’s get to that list of nominees!

‘Maestro’ (Netflix)

Maestro is Bradley Cooper’s second-ever film as a director, following A Star Is Born starring Lady Gaga. In the biopic, Cooper plays Leo Bernstein, a real-life conductor who happens to be bisexual. The 2024 Golden Globes nominated Maestro for “Best Motion Picture – Drama,” and Cooper earned nominations for “Best Director – Motion Picture” and “Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama.”

Unfortunately, All of Us Strangers only received one nomination at the 2024 Golden Globes: Andrew Scott’s performance is up for “Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama.”

Colman Domingo’s performance in Rustin has been nominated for “Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama.” The theme song of the film, “Road to Freedom” by Lenny Kravitz, also received a Golden Globe nom for “Best Original Song – Motion Picture.”

The queer-inclusive French drama Anatomy of a Fall was nominated for 2024 Golden Globes in the “Best Motion Picture – Drama” and “Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language” categories. Justine Triet and Arthur Harari were recognized in the “Best Screenplay – Motion Picture” category, and Sandra Hüller’s performance was nominated for “Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama.”

The two main actresses in Nyad were nominated for Golden Globes. Annette Bening is competing in the “Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama” category, whereas Jodie Foster was nominated for “Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture.”

The Color Purple is very much a queer story, and the 2023 version of the film isn’t afraid of exploring that particular element. The 81st Golden Globes have nominated Fantasia Barrino for “Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy” and Danielle Brooks for “Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture.”

From out gay director Todd Haynes, May December has been nominated for “Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.” Yes, we know what you’re thinking: May December being classified as a “Musical or Comedy” at the Golden Globes is the most chaotic thing since The Martian also competed in those categories a few years ago.

The queer-inclusive Barbie movie was the most-nominated film of the year at the 2024 Golden Globes. The film itself was nominated for “Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy” and “Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.” The soundtrack of Barbie also dominated the “Best Original Song – Motion Picture” category, with a special highlight to Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?”
