First dates can be nerve-wracking for anybody, especially the LGBTQ community. They may have concerns about safety, since not all destinations are welcoming or even tolerant.

According to Dating Advice, these cities offer a relatively safe space for LGBT+ dating.

San Francisco

San Francisco has a thriving gay community. You don’t have look long before you see a rainbow flag or crosswalk in The Castro. There are plenty of cute eateries and bars to meet your date there, like Twin Peaks Tavern. However, there are more options beyond The Castro.

If you want something upscale, book a reservation for two at the Waterfront Restaurant on The Embarcadero. If going clubbing is on the agenda, check out Oasis, Temple or Monroe.

Atlanta

Atlanta is one of the most gay-friendly cities in the South. If you and your date want to chat during a long walk, check out The Beltline or Piedmont Park.

Denver

If you and your date like beer, there are great breweries in and around Denver. Gay-friendly neighborhoods include Cheesman Park, Capitol Hill and The Highlands.

Washington D.C.

The nation’s capital offers plenty for gay couples to-be. Dupont Circle alone will keep you occupied with its array of eateries, bistros and cultural sites.

Portland

When most think of U.S. cities linked to the gay rights movement, New York and San Francisco lead the pack. However, don’t sleep on Portland, Oregon, which has also contributed to LGBTQ activism.

Provincetown

This small city in Massachusetts is charming all year round. However, it’s especially nice in the spring and summer. Explore Commercial Street, which is filled with cute galleries, eateries and boutiques.

Indianapolis

Indianapolis lauds itself as one of the top LGBTQ friendly destinations in the Midwest. If you happen to be in town during Pride month, Indianapolis has a fun parade and festival.

Orlando

This city’s most famous attraction is Disney World. However, not everybody is into the crowds and noise. Walk through Leu Gardens, which is close to downtown Orlando. This botanical paradise offers concerts and other events that you and your date may enjoy.

Austin

Austin really is the place to be for foodies, gay and straight. Some gay businesses to patronize include Patika, a wine bar and cafe, and Cheer up Charlie’s a lesbian-owned bar.

Minneapolis

This major city in Minnesota has some cozy shops and cafes. Take your partner-to-be for a chai tea at Uncommon Grounds or a coffee at Spyhouse.
