LG Smart TVs Recalled Over Serious Safety Concerns After Reports of Tip-Overs

This recall involves four LG Electronics 86-inch smart TV models.

LG Electronics has recalled 52,000 86-inch smart televisions and stands after safety concerns rose following reports of tip-overs.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, as of Jan. 12, anyone who purchased an LG 86-inch smart TV in-stores or online from Walmart, Best Buy, Costco, or Amazon from March through September 2022 should double-check their television.

Four 86-inch smart TV models have been recalled, including model numbers 86UQ8000AUB, 86UQ7070ZUD, 86UQ7590PUD, and 86NANO75UQA. The televisions are 86 inches diagonally, 43.5 inches high, 76 inches wide, and 2.4 inches deep. Each model weighs roughly 100 pounds.

In addition to the 52,000 televisions sold, about 1,800 were sold in Canada and around 2,900 were sold in Mexico.

According to the CPSC, the television can become unsteady while propped up on the assembled stand, which could cause serious tip-over and entrapment hazards, resulting in injuries or death to children and others. While there have been no reports of injuries, the electronics company has received 22 reports of TV stand instability and 12 reports of tip-overs.

The serial number of the recalled product begins with 202RM, 203RM, 204RM, 205RM, 206RM, 207RM, or 208RM and is located next to the model number at the back of the TV on the bottom right-hand side. Another way to check the serial number is by pressing the mute button rapidly three times on the LG remote control that was provided with the television.

Customers who currently own one of these TVs should immediately detach the television from the stand legs and keep it in a safe location away from children.

Customers can also contact LG Electronics for instructions on how to inspect the unit and to acquire replacement screws and stand parts, including help from a technician for a free repair. Anyone who has wall-mounted their television does not need to stop using this product.
