Levi's and Studio Ghibli Debut 'Princess Mononoke' Collection

Studio Ghibli captivated the world with its awe-inspiring animation and emotional storytelling, and now the Japanese animation studio is teaming up with Levi's to honor its 1997 epic historical fantasy film "Princess Mononoke." The collection features the film's atmospheric forests and its characters on classic Levi's silhouettes.

Ashitaka, the film's protagonist, is featured on the 501 '93 jeans while San — Princess Mononoke herself — appears on shorts and a trucker jacket. The collection also spotlights the brand's darker indigo pieces with the Kimono Jacket and the Kodama Overalls that draw on the moods of the film's environments.

The collection weaves the film's message into graphic tees and a hoodie with embroidered film quotes accompanying striking designs of the characters. For example, a cream Ashitaka hoodie reads, "It is your fate to go there and see what you can see with eyes unclouded by hatred," and a San & Wolf tee reads, "You must set her free. She is not a wolf! She's a human!"

Levi's rounds out the collection for denim and anime lovers alike with accessories: bandanas featuring San's battle mask, an Ancient Forest bucket hat, a San & Ashitaka tote bag and two coin bags.

"Over 25 years after its release, Princess Mononoke continues to resonate deeply with audiences across the globe as an animated icon," Karyn Hillman, chief product officer at Levi Strauss & Co, said in a statement. "It was a joy to collaborate with Studio Ghibli and create such a beautiful collection that pays tribute to this compelling, artistic masterpiece."
