Yahoo Lifestyle caught up with Snoop Dogg, who performed a DJ set at the party, to recall the very first time he slipped on a pair of Levi’s jeans. “My first pair of Levi’s was in the ‘70s. Early ‘70s. Probably 1977 to 1978,” the rapper told Yahoo Lifestyle. “I got some hand-me-downs from one of my cousins. I ironed them all night and made sure they were creased up so when I put them on they had a different style.”
His favorite pair of jeans? None other than Levi’s classic 501s. “501s! I mean you know that’s Snoop Dogg, that’s my style. You just throw these mother f***ers on and they just feel automatically ... like a superhero. It’s like my cape. You know what I’m saying? Superman has a cape with an S on his chest. Snoop Dogg has 501s on his legs at all times.”
“I think the 501 is ageless and timeless,” she added. “I imagine that my style might change slightly over the years but my jeans will stay the same.”
Bieber is the new face of Levi’s 501 campaign and showed her support at the brand’s Coachella party by wearing a full Canadian tuxedo look by Levi’s, accessorizing with gold bling and a dazzling “Bieber” necklace around her neck.
Joan Smalls also reminisced about her first pair of Levi’s, a “high-waisted” number. “It was the classic jean,” she told Yahoo Lifestyle. “It was actual real denim. You know, it didn’t have the stretch or anything.”
Emily Ratajkowski shared, “My earliest memory was my dad wearing Levi’s and how inspired I was by him.” Nowadays, the model said, “I love the high-waisted jeans, all different types, older vintage versions.” For Ratajkowski, Levi’s “has that rock n roll feel. I think of Bruce Springsteen and these music icons who have all worn Levi’s. They have a vintage look which I love.” The best part? They get better with age.
Jaden Smith, Wiz Khalifa, Candice Huffine and more partied in the desert as Snoop Dogg DJed.
In between tunes, Snoop Dogg told Yahoo Lifestyle how Levi’s ability to surpass generations and age groups over the years has made him a longtime supporter.
“Levi’s is original and unique,” he said. “It feels good. It fits good. It’s been the same. It’s something that you’re accustomed to. It’s the quality. There’s concern. There’s care.
“Not only do they make good clothes, but they do great things in the community and they give back,” he added. “That’s one thing that I can say why I stand by Levi’s. They also put their money where their mouth is as far as giving back to communities, to the people that actually buy their clothes. So that’s a beautiful thing.”
