Let's Talk About Obama's Post-Presidency Attire
Former president, Dad-About-Town and The Most Unbothered American, Barack Obama, has been slaying the fashion game since leaving office in January. After going on vacation for a few weeks and dropping off of our radars, he's back, popping up on our Timeline like an ex that just finished the Whole30 and got a new selfie stick. The man is positively glowing. I mean, you'd be glowing too if you had a whole vault of secret wiretaps that definitely no one would ever find out about.
Seriously, though, Barack is giving us so many post-White House lewks. He's that dad who semi-retires and starts using all those Banana Republic gift cards that he always got for the Secret Santa every year. It's still a mystery who at the office thought he shopped at Banana Republic, but whatever, he's there now and he's here to show out like Vivian Ward.
The Obamas were spotted on a recent trip to the National Gallery, revealing that Barack has added an essential Dad-About-Town item to his wardrobe: one pristine leather jacket.
I'm obsessed with this. This is the lewk for the man who is too sedate to buy a motorcycle but wants everyone to know that he's "chillin'." This lewk says he is interested in your invitations to karaoke bars and Chance the Rapper concerts. This lewk says he sometimes sleeps til 8 a.m., just because. This lewk says he downloaded SnapChat and his favorite filter is "the one that makes you look like Samurai Jack." (He means Kung-Fu Panda.)
This lewk, obviously, comes with a gift bag.
Semi-Retired Dad-About-Town is obsessed with shopping now and he wants everyone to know it. Barack definitely bought something at the National Gallery gift shop and the salesperson probably got super awkward about it because are you actually supposed to charge a former president for a magnet? Are tchotchkes part of the benefits package?
TBH, I'm really liking this addition to the Dad-About-Town collection. It fits nicely with the other lewks.
Dad-About-Vacation (Now with extra thigh):
This is a perfect lewk for the Dad-About-Town who suddenly starts following the Chubbies page on Facebook and shows up to every barbecue in tiny American flag shorts.
And then there's Dad-About-The-City (Now with less tie):
This is a great lewk for the semi-retiree who has business to take care of but wants to remind everyone that he has a great tan and literally never has to get yelled at by a Senator ever again.
So many different styles in the first 40 days of the new Barack Obama. The leather jacket is an interesting addition as it indicates he may be experiencing something of a McConnaissance.
The lewks are identical save for the fact that Matthew McConaughey's ensemble is a bit more weathered. He's giving you Dad-With-A-Past.
Here is is again, this time with Channing Tatum just because:
When you look at this McConaughey shot from a year ago, it becomes clear what's happening to our happy former president. He's leaning forward and perking up his ears every time a bemusing Lincoln MKC commercial comes on the television.
His eyes light up. A small smile creeps across his lips. Perhaps he takes a note on his BlackBerry that says something odd like "Be the captain."
It's happening. Barack is having an Obamassaissance. A Barevival? A Comeba(ra)ck? I don't know. Something is happening and it looks great.
