Let a rabbit hop into your life; 43 arrive at Loudoun County animal shelter

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — Easter isn’t over yet — 43 rabbits arrived at Loudoun County Animal Services (LCAS) last week.

LCAS is looking for adopters as the agency received a record number of rabbits all at once on Friday, April 5 from a county resident.

The rabbits range from 2 days to 2 years old.

The resident said they had three rabbits as pets but that number suddenly grew in a short period of time, according to an LCAS news release.

“Rabbits really can multiply incredibly quickly, and they start reproducing at just four months of age. In addition to significant health and behavioral benefits, this really demonstrates why spay and neuter of all pets, including rabbits, is so important,” Animal Shelter Operations Manager Melissa Heard stated.

LCAS said the sudden influx of rabbits need homes as soon as possible. They are in the process of being spayed or neutered and will be available for adoption soon.

The adoption fee for the rabbits will temporarily be $25, and they are “adopt one, receive a second free!”
