Let's Look at the 2019 Grammy Nominees

After the announcements were postponed for George H. W. Bush's funeral (yeah) we have our Grammy Award nominees for 2019. You may have been able to guess who's on here. A few general categories—record of the year, album of the year, song of the year, and best new artist—expanded from five nominees to eight, so there are a lot of names. But also a lot of repeats.

As expected, there are a lot of nominations for Cardi B, Drake and Childish Gambino. Drake is nominated for album of the year for Scorpion, and for song of the year, record of the year, and best rap song for "God's Plan." Childish Gambino also has both song and record of the year nominations for "This Is America," and Kendrick Lamar is up for record of the year with "All The Stars" from the Black Panther soundtrack. Brandi Carlile has a few nominations for her album By The Way, I Forgive You. Oh, and lest you think we were getting out of this without A Star Is Born, "Shallow" is also up for record of the year. The best new artist nominees are mostly women, including Bebe Rexha, Dua Lipa, Chloe x Halle, and Jorja Smith.

Kacey Musgraves and Janelle Monae are also both up for album of the year. Monae's "Pynk" was nominated for best music video, and Musgraves' Golden Hour was also nominated for best country album. Yee yee, bitch! You can read the full list here, which, as ever, includes more categories than you even realized exited. Shout out to Christina Aguilera to being nominated for "best rap/sung performance" for "Like I Do," and to Sting & Shaggy being up for best reggae album.
