Lenny Bros' Tandem Jaws Tube Inspires New Category in Big Wave Challenge (Watch)

Insane. Crazy. Nuts. Absolutely bonkers. Mind-blowing. What's the right term for not one, but two Lennys charge an insanely huge wave at Jaws—together?

We're already well aware of what a badass Maui's big wave hellman Kai Lenny is. The dude can launch 40 feet into the air wing foiling, tow into Tahitian bombs, and do barrel roles like butter on Cloudbreak bombs.

Then there's Ridge Lenny, Kai's younger brother who apparently has no problem keeping up with his big bro. Together, like an '80s gum commercial, they're double the fun (new sponsor perhaps?).

Thanks to a tandem tube at Jaws earlier this year, they've carved out their own category as contenders in the New Big Wave Challenge (NBWC).

Of course, only Kai and Ridge Lenny could do something so unique that award events need to create new categories just for them (rolls eyes).

The NBWC captioned the video above:

"Kai and Ridge Lenny (Paia, Hawaii, USA), creating their own new category for best doubles tube in the 2022/23 New Big Wave Challenge. Pe'ahi Video by Slater Neborsky. Follow us at @bigwavechallenge to see who wins! One of the highlights of the past year?"

In August, we reported that the event is similar to its big wave award ancestors like Billabong and Quicksilver's big wave awards.

According to its website:

"This year’s event window will include every wave ridden at every big wave break around the world from August 2022 through July 2023. The top contenders will rise to the top and the winners will be declared in a gala awards party to be held in Nazaré, Portugal on October 28, 2023."
