Lena Headey’s response to Louis C.K.’s apology is savage

Lena Headey, much like her Game of Thrones character Cersei Lannister, is a force to be reckoned with. On November 11th, the actress tweeted a critique of Louis C.K.’s recent apology — written in response to the sexual misconduct allegations leveled against him — that would make the queen of Westeros proud.

On November 9th, five women publicly accused C.K. of sexual misconduct in a New York Times feature. And on November 10th, the comedian issued a response statement in which he admitted the allegations were true and claimed he was “remorseful.” He also made several references to how much his accusers “admired” him — the statement, unsurprisingly, garnered criticism. His phrasing implied that his victims kept quiet because of their “admiration” for him, as opposed to the fact that they simply feared he had the power to ruin their careers. Many noted that C.K.’s statement also failed to understand the concept of consent.

And Headey has added her voice to the chorus.

“Louis CK. The words you wrote are a shitshow of narcissistic cock soup,” Headey wrote in a tweet.

And her clapback didn’t end there.

“He didn’t apologize. FULL STOP,” she tweeted. “He wrote some stuff that he thought would make people still think he’s funny. He ain’t.”

C.K.’s behavior has long been an open secret in Hollywood, most notably since a 2012 Gawker story that reported on a comedian who forced women to watch him masturbate, which many speculated was C.K. His November 10th statement marks the first time he verified the claims were true; he had denied them as recently as September of this year.

Headey has spoken out against sexual assault in the past. In October, she was one of the many actresses who revealed that she had been sexually harassed by Harvey Weinstein. Her commitment to calling out abusers is one we should share and emulate.

Hopefully, in the future, abusers like C.K. will completely own up to their actions. Until then, we’re thankful for the brave women and men who are calling them out.
