Lela Rose Opens the Lela Rose Ranch in Jackson Wyoming

Designer and entrepreneur Lela Rose's mantra is this: every day is an occasion, dress accordingly. Naturally, her recently opened Lela Rose Ranch flagship falls in line with this notion, and melds the designer's refined yet brash sensibility with the iconic rugged glamour of the American west.

The new venture was born out of more time spent at Rose's home in Jackson Hole over the past few years, and the flagship houses a collection that is exclusive to the location. Think: handmade pieces with embellished beadwork, elevated chambray and poplin, as well as upcycled fringe skirts made of vintage kimonos. But in addition to the designs exclusively available to the Lela Rose Ranch, the hand-hewn cabin flagship (which is located in Wilson—a few minutes from Jackson) is also filled to the brinm with heirloom caliber vintage silver and turquoise pieces, such as buckles, bolos, and belts, which have been meticulously curated by the designer herself.

The trappings of Lela Rose Ranch are a perfect complement to the Jackson locale—and reflect Rose's connection to the west. Naturally, of course, as the designer has roots in the area and knows her way for a great night out on the town. (It consists of dinner at Coelette and swing dancing at the Silver Dollar Bar, and then, according to Rose, "every good night ends at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar.")

Back at the Lela Rose Ranch, there's more than just clothing and good vintage available. Also included in the mix: elevated home-on-the-range goods that will take home entertaining to the next level. With everything from table runners, to cheeky cocktail napkins embroidered with Rose's favorite cowboy colloquialisms ("All hat, no cattle," for example) — and even her own ranch dressing. It's the perfect outfitter for home entertaining.

This of course is no coincidence, as Lela Rose has also launched her second book “Fresh Air Affairs: Entertaining with Style in the Great Outdoors.” As the title would denote, the book is guide to entertaining in the great outdoors, with tips for crafting specialty cocktails, as well as ideas for excursions and carefully curated gatherings.

So what's the secret to creating a cohesive fete that is equal parts fabulous and matches the surroundings? Lela says, "I love to plan parties based on where I am and using nature as my backdrop—it’s the cheapest entertainment you’ll ever have and magical in that you never quite know what you’ll get. A field of wildflowers can be the setting for a ladies lunch or a gorgeous view for a couples 'Sundowner' party. I find being outside in the elements has the potential for surprise and that just makes it that much more fun."

Another Lela Rose entertaining tenet lies within attention to detail. "Place cards are a great way to signal that you have thought about your guests. They can be a perfect way to add detail to your table scape, but also takes the uncertainty out of where people are sitting."

Entertaining according to Lela is where elegance meets simplicity. It can be distilled down to this advice: set the tone with a signature cocktail and a smile.
