Saddles are important. The right one transforms the experience of riding a bike, and they play a crucial role in a bike’s appearance (if you’re into that kind of thing).

If you have a beloved saddle that’s starting to show its age, or your dream bike needs that last touch to make it look just perfect, Carson Leh is the fairy godfather you’ve been looking for. His company Leh Seats offers popular saddles recovered with his designs, leather bar tape, and a recovering service for your favorite saddle. Leh also creates full custom saddle covers, bar tape and seat bags.

Leh’s stock designs, he says, “came directly from fine leather footwear. Specifically brogue style dress shoes from the last century. Inspiration also comes from other sources. I'm particularly fond of geometric patterning from Japan and the Middle East.” Leh has a selection of new saddles from Fizik and Selle Italia with his stock covering designs starting at $119 and summiting at $520.

For something more personalized, customized covers are available, too. Saddle leather type, color, hole patterns, etching, and stitching can all be customized to create a dream saddle. A laser creates the perforations and etchings, while industrial Singer sewing machines from the 1930s perform the stitching.

Prices start at $180 for a simpler custom design and eclipse $700 when they incorporate exotic hides like Stringray, Crocodile, or American Bison. Those prices do not include the saddle; Leh has new saddles from Fizik, Selle SMP, Selle San Marco, WTB, Selle Italia on hand for custom projects.

Prices for Leh’s recovering service start at about $180 for a simple design and go up from there based on the complexity of the cover. If the saddle foam is in bad shape, Leh will need to fix that first (for an extra charge) but warns that, at that point, it may be less expensive to purchase a new saddle. Currently, Leh is estimates it takes two to three months to turn around a custom saddle.

Customized saddle bags start at $250, and bar tape starts at $80 for stock designs, reaching $200 for custom work.
