Legendary singer Tina Tuner has sadly died at the age of 83, the star's spokesperson has confirmed.

In a moving statement, the unnamed spokesperson told the media: "Tina Turner, the 'Queen of Rock'n Roll' has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model."

Tina's illustrious career spanned more than 60 years and birthed iconic tracks such as "What's Love Got to Do With It," "The Best," "Private Dancer," and "Proud Mary."

Tina was responsible for selling over 100 million records worldwide and won eight Grammys (and was nominated for 17 others).

The musical artist—who was born Annie Mae Bullock—initially shot to fame alongside her abusive ex-husband Ike Turner, with whom she performed the classic song "River Deep, Mountain High." Their relationship, and the domestic abuse perpetuated by Ike, was the focus on a 1993 Hollywood biopic starring Angela Bassett, What's Love Got to Do With It, which went on to win three Oscars.

The White House called Tina's death "a massive, massive loss" on Wednesday:

"Tina Turner was an icon, a music icon who had many stages, many amazing moments in her career," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said. "Very sad to hear the news. I was a huge fan of Tina Turner. As you can see from my reaction, that is the first I'm hearing of it. And it is a massive loss, massive loss to the communities that that loved her, certainly to the music industry."

Rest in peace, Tina Turner.
